Torsten Holzapfel
Anne-Christin Plate, Emilia Fiedler and Thikwa Werkstatt für Theater und Kunst
In 2023 Torsten Holzapfel, one of the artists working at Thikwa Werkstatt für Theater und Kunst, was invited by Álvaro Martínez Alonso to participate in AIRe (Artist In Residence: españa) in Madrid.
AIRe, which means "air" in Spanish, was a pilot project whose objective was to put it into practice and to obtain support to facilitate periods of artistic residence in Spain for artists with disabilities.
In accordance with the main inspiration in Torsten's artwork (the subway), a customized program was prepared in Madrid for him around this issue.
During that trip Torsten visited in Madrid important places for his inspiration and artistic production but also for his life experience and personal enjoyment such as the Madrid subway lines or the Railroad Museum, the major museums in Madrid such as Reina Sofia, TBA21 (Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum) or Prado and the beautiful Retiro Park or the old streets of the city. Torsten also met new friends, artists and representatives of cultural initiatives in Madrid such as Goethe Institut or Debajo del Sombrero among others.
