Artist residencies are a key factor in the lives of artists today. They influence their personal experiences and the development of their work and create networks and relationships with other cultural actors outside their comfort zone. However, artists with disabilities have fewer opportunities to participate in such events, as they usually have special needs and require more personal, logistical and financial support.

For this reason, Álvaro Martínez Alonso and Anne- Christin Plate, together with Marieta Campos Gisbert, created OUTSIDER ARTISTS SHOULD NOT BE LEFT OUTSIDE (Artists in Residence), a residency program for artists with intellectual disabilities focused on the postcard format as a form of expression that took place in Alcudia, Mallorca, in September 2024 and was funded thanks to Culture Moves Europe grants from the European Commission's Creative Europe programme.

We are very grateful for the collaboration and the warm welcome in Mallorca by Ela Fidalgo, Margarito dela Guetto, Casa Planas, EsmentMuseum Sa Bassa Blanca, Creative Europe, Theater Thikwa and many others, but especially by our partner on the island, Marieta Campos Gisbert.
